KVA designed Tammervoima’s waste-to-energy plant in Tarastenjärvi, Tampere. The project contractors were Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto Oy and Tampereen Sähkölaitos Oy. The low-emission power plan generates 310 GWh of district heat and 90 GWh of electricity annually from mixed waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill. By utilising waste to generate energy instead of sending it to landfill sites, the power plant reduces the amount of methane gas produced during biodegradation, thereby also reducing the burden on the environment.
